  Northeast Asian studies generally include (South and North) Korea, China, Taiwan and Japan. Studies on these individual countries, especially on China and Japan are abundant, yet cross-national comparative analyses between these counties have been limited. Compared to Latin American or European studies, where cross-national comparisons between the countries within the regions are actively conducted, the compartmentalization between countries and country specialists are stronger in the field Northeast Asian Studies.
